Improved range

I actually purchased this antenna with hopes that it would improve the range of my remote control used to operate our driveway gate. It operates on 433Mhz as well. It worked perfectly as I'm now able to operate the gate from anywhere within the house were before I had to go onto the front porch and wave the remote around hoping to get it to work. Our driveway is ~600ft. I'm very happy with the performance of the antenna.
No balun?

First thought: I expected the antenna to inculde a balun instead of connecting direclty one side of the antenna to the shield and the other side to the inner core of the coax cable. Remain to be tested to check the performance, I am a little bit disappointed for the price and no balun. Dragonlink's antennas have it at least.
